High Altitude Mountaineering by Summit Oxygen
Summit Oxygen has developed the lightest oxygen cylinder and regulator available on the market and the face-mask is fast becoming recognised as the gold standard for use on the worlds highest peaks.
For Himalayan Mountaineers, Summit Oxygen has developed two complete supplementary oxygen systems for use by extreme high altitude mountaineers, the Standard and Elite systems. Each consists of an ultralight oxygen cylinder, regulator or reducer and face-mask.
Summit Oxygen STANDARD System
The Summit Oxygen Standard System consists of the Himalayan Oxygen Cylinder, Himalayan Regulator and Himalayan Facemask all developed specifically for the extreme high altitude mountaineer.
All our equipment is available to rent or to buy in Nepal, China, Pakistan, India and Argentina.
The Standard system is so called because this is the traditional way oxygen systems have been designed for use on the mountain, with the flow of oxygen being controlled by the regulator which is located on the oxygen cylinder. The Himalayan Facemask is the most advanced oxygen delivery system available. Its features:
Exoskeleton: Provides secure platform for valves and head harness, insulation and prevents spreading across face
Oxygen Reservoir: Protected from damage and wind. Clear cover for observation of correct function
Exhalation Valve: Thermal protection by 'snood' to prevent freezing
Ambient Air Valve: Protected from distortion by wind resistant cover
Summit Oxygen ELITE System
The Summit Oxygen Elite System is designed to offer greater flexibility for the experienced high altitude mountaineer, guide and Sherpa. The advantage of the Summit Elite System is the ability to change the flow rate from the shoulder mounted flow selector, rather than from the regulator mounted on the cylinder.
The Summit Oxygen Elite System consists of the Himalayan Oxygen Cylinder, the Himalayan Reducer with Flow Selector and the Himalayan Facemask.
All our equipment is available to rent or to buy in Nepal, China, Pakistan, India and Argentina.
The Flow Selector is mounted on the climbers shoulder allowing them to quickly and easily adjust their flow rate. The benefit of this is that it gives a climber greater control, they can turn the flow rate up if they are attempting a more strenuous section of the route and turn it down again as soon as they pass that section.
A good example would be bottlenecks on the way to the summit of Everest where a lot of oxygen can be burnt up unnecessarily while waiting for the route to clear. The Himalayan Facemask is the most advanced oxygen delivery system available. It features:
Exoskeleton: Provides secure platform for valves and head harness, insulation and prevents spreading across face
Oxygen Reservoir: Protected from damage and wind. Clear cover for observation of correct function
Exhalation Valve: Thermal protection by 'snood' to prevent freezing
Ambient Air Valve: Protected from distortion by wind resistant cover
